Sunil Yogacharya was born to live for others. From an early age, he has been a firm believer in Indian culture and was fascinated with the idea of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam which means ‘World is one Family’. Accordingly, he has always been very caring and helpful to everyone around him: family, neighbours, and friends. And over a period of time, the circle has only increased to encompass anyone in need, near or far, local or foreigner. As his social circle and social work grew, his time and focus on personal life were radically lessened.

However, fate had a different plan for him. In the year 2007, he came across a person (Vidushi Ji) who not only appreciated his passion for social work and Indian tradition but also decided to live a similar (rather same) life. They both tied the nuptial knot but it didn’t bring any difference in the lifestyle of Sunil Ji. He rather started spending more time for people and their cause now. Vidushi Ji looked after all his house chores and family matters while he was worried about the world. The couple lived a very simple life and preferred spending their money to bring happiness to the life of a needy instead of personal comforts. Even after the arrival of their son ‘Utsav’ in 2009, the couple lived the same way. Sunil Ji was hardly there to look after his pregnant wife or share her workload due to the social responsibilities he had assumed but Vidushi Ji, following in the footstep of an ideal Indian wife, never complained. She rather worked harder and smarter to share the worries and work of her husband.

Living in the heartland of India, the capital town of Delhi, the couple was faced with a rapid rise in pollution, population, crime, corruption, traffic jams, health troubles, and a great decline in the core values of Indian culture. This multitude of modern-day problems forced them to seek a way back to mother nature and Vedic values. Finally, in 2017, Sunil Ji decided to leave Delhi and live in a village somewhere close to nature not just to set an example before everyone but also to open a path for them. Vidushi Ji and little Utsav happily and willingly accompanied him.

With the help of his friends and well-wishers, Sunil Ji started building his dream project, the Arogyam Institute of Yoga and Natural Sciences in a village on the outskirts of Delhi. Sunil Ji single-handedly managed the whole project not only because all the sponsors and supporters were busy businessmen but also because they all had full faith in his abilities and intentions. It wasn’t an easy journey though. Sunil Ji, even before setting up buildings and other facilities, on finding the widespread of liquor and other intoxicants amongst the locals there, started focusing on their transformation first. Even before he could set up a proper concrete building for the dwelling of his family there, he secured a firm place in the hearts of the locals by helping them with all their petty problems and showing them the light of opportunities in life. He and his wife worked hard day in and day out for the betterment of the surrounding villages and the villagers. Soon they found a huge loving and helping family there.

It is very hard to imagine how a young couple and their young child can reject the glamour and comfort of a metropolitan city in favour of modest country life which is full of uncertainty and deprivation. It is indeed hard to believe how a person who had used only a pen in the name of a tool was working as a farmer, as a plumber, as an electrician, and as anything that the situation may demand. It is really difficult to visualize how a modern man would leave his bed early on a winter morning just to clean the cow dung and feed the dozens of cattle and also milk them, sometimes with the help of an attendant and sometimes all by himself.

Sunil Yogacharya and his family have done it all not for themselves but for the sake of society; to create awareness amongst the people. Despite people laughing and cursing them and even betraying them at times; despite rough typhoons taking away the roof of their shelter and uprooting the trees they had grown with so much love and care; despite having no help and no provisions at times; despite facing the hardships imposed due to Corona Lockdown; despite catching corona himself and fighting a death battle; despite all odds, Sunil Ji never compromised his dream of creating a model of ecologically sustainable living and his family stood firm with him. As a result, all those he helped and inspired became his family.

You are also invited to join his family. Here, you may not find the luxury and comfort available in so many other places, however, you will surely find love and warmth unparalleled. And also benefit from his research and experience.
